Research Assistant   (JV01)                                            

The Olfactory Behavioral Neuroscience Laboratory at the John B. Pierce Laboratory is searching for a full-time research assistant. The Pierce Laboratory is an interdisciplinary research institute, affiliated with Yale University, devoted to the study of biological, psychological, and behavioral interactions with the environment and their influence on human health. The Pierce Laboratory provides excellent benefits with employer paid health insurance and free parking.

We are looking for an experienced technician or recent graduate in biology/neurobiology/physiology who is highly motivated to work in a small, collaborative laboratory studying the sense of smell in relation to neural coding, sampling behavior, navigation (including robotics), and aging.

The role:

1) Research

  • help perform rodent and robot experiments
  • keep detailed records of experiments
  • analyze experimental data
  • address methodological problems in experimental protocols and results
  • present data

Depending on experience and interest, opportunities may be available to work under the guidance of the PI on projects leading to co-authored publications.

2) Lab maintenance and management

  • ordering and upkeep of supplies
  • mouse colony management and report
  • breeding and genotyping
  • maintenance of general laboratory safety
  • management of lab records

The ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, physiology, neuroscience, or related subject
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated and with interest in publications
  • Prior lab experience especially working with lab animals, robots, Excel, Noldus, Python, ROS and Matlab
  • Experience with behavioral studies, colony management and genotyping
