Title: Cardiovascular Drift and Maximal Oxygen Uptake during Heat Stress in Women

The overarching theme of this dissertation focuses on aspects of female physiology that mediate the interdependence of cardiovascular and temperature regulation. Studies were designed to investigate the extent to which hyperthermia resulting from reproductive hormones, metabolic heat production and biological sex—superimposed upon prolonged environmental heat stress—influence the relationship between cardiovascular drift phenomena and maximal oxygen uptake and utilization. My findings demonstrate that including women in cardiovascular and heat research is not difficult when studies are well-designed and implement proper testing methodologies.
