Dr. Wenfei Han joined the laboratory of Ivan de Araujo, DPhil, in 2012 as a postgraduate fellow and in 2015 as a postdoctoral associate. As an undergraduate, Dr. Han received systematic basic and clinical training in oral-facial medicine and surgery. She has developed a new bariatric mouse model that was combined with optogenetic activation of genetically specified brain cells. After earning her MD degree, Dr. Han decided to follow a research career in neurobiology, placing emphasis on craniofacial sensorimotor systems. Her current research interests concentrate on identifying the mechanisms through which the sensory stimuli exert control over craniofacial motor programs. Dr. Han’s most recent work has contributed to our understanding of how brain centers coordinate cervical and mandibular muscles during a natural behavior, predatory hunting.
